16/02/18 - Grange-over-Sands Weekend

Yet again, Alan organised another great weekend, at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange-over-Sands. By all accounts it was as popular as ever, with around 120 dancers on the Saturday evening.

Unfortunately the same weekend, we recieved the sad news that Sue's Mum, Margaret had passed away. The following item should appear in the April edition of the LSD magazine.

Obituary ~ Margaret Sturgess

Margaret started dancing aged 84, soon after her daughter Sue joined Blue Diamonds.  Because they both enjoyed square dancing so much, like many Blue Diamonds members, they also joined Village Squares at Hilderstone.  ‘Sue’s mum’, absolutely adored square dancing and if you were to speak to anyone at either Blue Diamonds or Village Squares, I’m sure they’d agree that the feeling was mutual.

Sadly, Margaret passed away in February, following a short illness, aged 97.  Needless to say, she was our most senior member and still enjoyed dancing regularly, until her mobility became impaired in recent months.  Sue and her mum also regularly attended Christ Church in Fenton, where I’m sure Margaret’s good humour and lively personality will be missed as much by the congregation there, as it will by the local square dance community.

Our thoughts are of course with Sue and family at this time and we look forward to welcoming Sue on club nights again in the near future.

Katherine House appeal - Christmas 2017

With the help of our friends at Village squares (who donated their Christmas raffle proceeds), between us, we've managed to raise another £100 for the Katherine House Hospice 'Give care not cards at Christmas' appeal. We've been raising money this way since 2011 and I'm pleased to say that this brings our total donations so far, to a magnificent £545.60. Thank-you everyone for supporting this very worthy cause.

28/01/18 - Sunday Tea Dance

Following on from our successful Saturday night on 21st October, Alan organised a Sunday Tea dance on 28th January. As Alan said, “any better ideas for a winter’s afternoon”?  Well to be perfectly frank, no, it was a good idea…  Good company, good food, good raffle prizes and good to dance in a friendly environment.  Thanks to everyone who that supported this event and thank-you again to Alan and Tess. 21/10/17 - Saturday Night Dance

Alan kindly organised a Saturday night dance for us, on 21st October at Hilderstone village hall (pot luck and raffle). To quote Alan: 'Oh boy, when did this last happen in Staffordshire'?

It really was a good evening (the raffle alone raised £40 for club funds). So on behalf of the club, I'd really like to say a big thank-you to Alan (and Tess of course) and all the dancers from various clubs that supported us on the night.

This is the Poster and this is the article I submitted to the LSD Mag.

27/07/17 - Pot Luck & Raffle

As usual, we finished at the end of July with a pot luck and raffle evening, which was a great success... The raffle, raised a much needed £36 for club funds, so on behalf of the commitee, it's a big thank-you to everyone that supported us.

One notable absence on the night, was Alison, who was visiting her friend in Lincoln at the time.  At least she still managed to go square dancing, even if it was at a different club (Bishops Eight SDC)!

16/06/17 - Broseley Jitty Bugs SDC

As you may know, Trevor has alternated with Alan as caller at Blue Diamonds for many years, but he's recently moved to Lancaster and is now only able to call for us occasionally. So, we were pleased to hear that Steve (from Broseley Jitty Bugs), would be able to call for us every now and then.

Steve has called for us twice recently and both times, we've had an enjoyable evening. However, on the second occasion, he announced that it would be the last time that he would call in the UK, before moving to France. Whilst we wish him well, this has left his old club (Broseley Jitty Bugs) without a caller. I understand that they are hoping to get another occasional caller, but in the mean time, we've been pleased to welcome them to Blue Diamonds and hope that they will continue to visit us.

07/01/16 - January award for ‘Best excuse for not getting to square dancing’ goes to Pippa and Francis

‘Sorry we never got to the first evening of the square dancing 2016...  at 6pm this evening I found this young lady on the front lawn so, because she wouldn't survive the anticipated cold spell, we drove her to a wonderful hedgehog person we know in Cheslyn Hay.  Sadly - the opposite direction to Stone, otherwise we could have come dancing as well’ :-)

31/12/15 - New Year's Eve with Bishops Eight

Some of our members represented Blue Diamonds at the Bishops Eight New Year Event.  The theme was Nursery Rhyme Characters…  You may recognise some familiar faces (or even the rear view in some cases) from the attached photo.  Apparently, a good time was had by all and the message from John Turner at Bishops Eight is: ‘Happy dancing in 2016, we hope to see club members sometime through the year’.

01/12/15 - New Dancers & New Life for Old Club Video

I'm pleased to say that we've had two new dancers join us in recent weeks (Pippa and Francis), who seem to be picking up all the basic steps really well! So, I thought it would be good to dig out a copy of 'The illustrated BASIC and MAINSTREAM Movements of Square Dancing' handbook, as well as a DVD copy of on old (VHS) demonstration video that was recorded by experienced dancers at the club many years ago... And then I though, why not convert the sections into short clips that could be uploaded and viewed on-line. You may have noticed the video player window on our home page... Why not take a look? I know that the quality is not great, (some in colour, some in black & white and some that flick between the two) but the content is still good. Enjoy!

25/09/14 - Permanent Change of Venue

Following a unanimous decision, by the Blue Diamonds members, the club has now relocated permanently to 'Stone Lawn Tennis & Squash Club'. We would like to thank the tennis club committee, for kindly agreeing to let us use their facilities.

The tennis club is located on the left hand side of Newcastle Road (when travelling North, from Stone) between the railway bridge and Trent Road. There is an on site car park, that we can use free of charge.

20/03/14 - Birthdays!

Congratulations to Gina and Joe, who gave us a good reason to hold a Pot Luck & Raffle Evening... Celebrating their significant birthdays!

Gina and Joe's Cakes

A good time was had by all, with a joint birthday cake, plus another that Gina kindly brought along to share... They really seemed too nice to eat, but we managed! (see photos).
